The Ambassador Team of the Month for October was Team Weide (Corey Weide, Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC; Cathy Crisp, Sioux Falls Shopping News/Western Commercial Printing; and Nancy Weber-Sweere, Midcontinent Communications).

Daren Anderson, Big D Technology Solutions, was awarded Diplomat of the Month honors for October. Second place honors went to Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club, and third place honors went to Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank. Jared VanBockern, Wells Fargo Bank, was the recipient of the Ribbon Cutting Attendance Award. The Retention Award went to Deb Peterson, CorTrust Bank. The Diplomat Team of the Month for October was: Captain David Johnson, DAKOTACARE; Daren Anderson, Big D Technology Solutions; Kristina Wolfe, Travel Leaders/Village Travel; Carrie Dragt, Midcontinent Communications; and Drew Cosand, Hegg Companies, Inc.

The Chamber held its annual Fall Membership Drive Nov. 4-22 with approximately 90 volunteers working to add new members to the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce. The drive was successful, with 84 new members joining.

Third place went to the team of Amy O’Connor Hoback, Kleenrite Company; Dave Staheim, RECOM, Inc.; and Jessica Kerher, Serendipitous Events, in third place.

The Ambassadors enlisted the assistance of several associates during the drive. Dan Johnson, St. Michael’s Cemetery, took first place honors and there was a tie for second place: Carrie Dragt, Midcontinent Communications, and Mike Denning, Fireworkz Store.

Welcome to all the new members and a big thank you to the volunteers who helped with the drive and the businesses and organizations that donated door prizes.

NEW FACES & PROMOTIONS

Greg Henson was named the 12th president of Sioux Falls Seminary effective Feb. 3, 2014. He is currently finishing his role as the Vice President for Institutional Advancement at Northern Baptist Theological Seminary in Lombard, Ill.

Wells Fargo promoted Amange Aware from principal business relationship manager to Business Banking manager. Aware, a Sioux Falls native, began his Wells Fargo career in 2002. He earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from South Dakota State University. Curt Zaske was named Business Banking manager and market president for Sioux Falls. Zaske began his Wells Fargo career in 1977. Since 2006, he has served as a Business Banking manager for parts of Sioux Falls and Worthington, Minn.

Joan Franken was promoted to Managing Director of Costello Companies. Franken has been employed with Costello for 18 years in various capacities. Bonnie Mogen joined Costello Companies as the Director of Development. Mogen has more than 19 years of experience in land development and the affordable housing industry.

Pam Boehm was promoted to Entrepreneurship & Incubation Manager at the South Dakota Technology Business Center. She formerly was the client services manager. She has been with the SDTBC since 2007 and has extensive experience as an entrepreneur, for-profit educational leader and as a coordinator of volunteers. Stephanie Vanderbruggen is now the Client Services Administrator. She formerly was the receptionist and an administrative assistant. Vanderbruggen has been with the SDTBC since 2008 and has experience in real estate and marketing.

Brown & Saenger hired several new employees: Aaron Deward, Purchasing Associate; Jeff Olson, Furniture Purchasing Associate; Julie Myers, Accounting Associate and Furniture Support; Melissa Chessir, Accounting Associate; Taunia Schmeling, Accounting Associate; Heather Mergen, Interior Designer with NCIDQ Certification; Jason Skiff, Sales Consultant; and Melany Pravecek, Sales Consultant. Janean Christensen was promoted to Furniture Support.

StarMark Cabinetry promoted Allen Meeks to Supervisor of the Small Parts/Samples/Rush Department. Meeks has been with StarMark Cabinetry for more than five years in various manufacturing roles. Chelsie Nelson was promoted to customer service representative. She has been with StarMark Cabinetry for more than three years in various manufacturing roles. Nelson is a 2009 graduate of Southeast Technical Institute. In addition, several other staff members were hired. Jason Jacobs is a production manager. He holds a Business Administration degree from Colorado Technical University and National American University. Michelle Waldner is a customer service supervisor. Waldner has an extensive customer service background. Brittany Segich is an administrative assistant in Creative Design Services. She attends Southeast Technical Institute and is studying Financial Services and Real Estate.

Kristen Schulte joined the Perspective design studio as an Architectural Designer/BIM Manager. Schulte has more than five years of architectural design experience and will be involved in all phases of a wide range of projects including healthcare, hospitality, corporate and higher education.

HONORS & AWARDS

On Nov. 11, 2013, the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce Military and Veterans Affairs Committee and local veterans organizations co-sponsored a veterans program at Lincoln High School. The event featured a mass colors presentation of flags from various military, veterans and service/civic club organizations in Sioux Falls, a performance by the Singing Legionnaires of American Legion Post 15, along with the keynote address given by Lt. Claude Hone, U.S. Marine. Four area veterans were honored for outstanding achievement to their organization, community and country: Douglas Callahan, Vietnam Veterans of America; Christopher Nelson, Military Order of the Purple Heart; Dave Nordlund, Dakota Marine Detachment; and Glen Walters, Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Larry Ritz received the Spirit of Sioux Falls Award from the Sioux Falls Development Foundation.

Sioux Falls Seminary recognized several employees with awards: Susan Reese, Associate Professor of Spiritual Formation, received the institution’s 2013 Powell Award for Excellence in Service by Faculty; Sheryl Sletten, Receptionist and Secretary, received the 2013 Rauschenbusch Award for Excellence in Service by Staff and Administration; and Dee Wacker, Licensed Professional Counselor at Sioux Falls Psychological Services, received the 2013 Zimbelman Award for Excellence in Service through Sioux Falls Psychological Services.

The Week in Imaging, an online information and news publication for resellers of office technology, supplies and services, recognized two local companies as 2013 Elite Dealers: Century Business Products and Marco, Inc.

Sheri Gunderson was named a Chamberlain Scholar by the Association of Fundraising Professionals (AFP) Foundation for Philanthropy. AFP is the largest association of fundraisers in the world. The AFP Foundation for Philanthropy supports programs and initiatives that help train fundraisers and increase knowledge and awareness of ethical fundraising. Gunderson is the Resource Development and Communications Manager with the Family Visitation Center.

MERGERS

Gage e-Services has merged with local advertising agency, The A Team. Together the new entity will be known as The Gage Team. Matt Gage of Gage e-Services and Brooke Christensen of The A Team will be co-owners of The Gage Team with Fred Gage serving as CEO.
