The December Ambassador Team of the Month was Dean Karsky, Farmers Insurance Group/Karsky Agency, and Rick Rysavy, Home Federal Bank.

Jack Dyvig
, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club, was named the December Diplomat of the Month. Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank, took second place honors and Karen Noonan, Carriernet Group Financial, Inc., took third place honors. Nelson also was the Reinvestment Blitz Winner for December. The December Diplomat Team of the Month included: Captain Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club; Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank; Jill Melchert, Farmers Insurance Group-Jill Melchert Agency; Wendy Bergan, YMCA; and Janel Cole, Postnet SD 103.

AWARDS

Aaron Gerdes, Brett Gildemaster and Kevin Jergenson of Century Business Products were selected as an OfficeDEALER magazine Elite Dealer for the fourth consecutive year. Century Business Products is the only dealership in the tri-state region to receive this award in the past four years. Century Business Products sells Kyocera and Samsung MFPs, copiers and printers as well as document solutions.

Liz Thiner, Decision Review Officer at the VA Dakotas Regional Office Sioux Falls location, recently received the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) 2009 National Commanders Award. This award was presented for her cooperative service to the DAV and her outstanding contributions to Veterans.

Christina Menning, Director of Development at McCrossan Boys Ranch, was recently awarded the Certified Fund Raising Executive Credential. The CFRE is the only professional certification available to fundraising professionals and is a standard that is recognized around the world.

Junior Achievement of South Dakota was awarded the non-profit organization’s Platinum Summit Award. The Summit Award is one of Junior Achievement’s highest honors. It is given by JA Worldwide® Headquarters to local JA offices that have reached outstanding success in financial health, program quality, management effectiveness, and program growth. The Platinum Award shows that a JA office has received the Summit Award for nine or more consecutive years. Junior Achievement of South Dakota has received the Summit Award for 15 consecutive years.

NEW FACES & PROMOTIONS

Julie Carlson of Sioux Falls has been selected to manage Sioux Falls Federal Credit Union’s new Arrowhead branch location. The new office, located at 5700 E. Arrowhead Pl., is scheduled to open in the spring. Carlson brings more than 25 years of experience in the Sioux Falls financial services industry. The branch office will house six employees and provide a full range of consumer and small business financial services. In addition to a full service lobby, the branch will include drive up units and an Advantage ATM.

Jens Saakvitne has been selected by the South Dakota Lions Eye Bank Board of Directors to lead the organization and assumed those duties at the start of the year. Saakvitne comes to Sioux Falls from North Carolina, where he was the Executive Director of the North Carolina Eye Bank. He has 17 years of executive leadership in the industry and has built programs in Alaska and has a broad background in the eye, tissue and organ donation field. He also has extensive experience in crisis intervention and bereavement.

The Sioux Falls VA Medical Center made James L. Brubaker, Jr., was appointed as the Director of the Dakotas Regional Office (Sioux Falls and Fargo locations). Brubaker previously served as the Assistant Director of the Oakland Regional Office in Oakland, Calif. from 2007-09. Mary Braley was promoted to Laboratory Supervisor at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center. Braley is a microbiologist who has worked at the medical center since 1985.

LEADERSHIP

Sue Christensen, Director of Rehab Services at Sanford Health, joined the National MS Society North Central States Chapter Board of Trustees. Christensen has been involved in the Chapter for more than nine years as a Bike MS participant and top fundraiser.
