Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club, was the Diplomat of the Month for May. Tammy Beintema, MSH Architects, Inc., took second place honors and Karen Noonan, Carriernet Group Financial, Inc., took third place honors for May. Angie Wahl, All-Star Travel, was the Reinvestment Blitz Winner for May. The May Diplomat Team of the Month included: Captain Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club; Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank; Jill Melchert, Farmers Insurance Group-Jill Melchert Agency; Wendy Bergan, YMCA; and Janel Cole, Postnet SD 103.

NEW FACES & PROMOTIONS

The Community Outreach recently hired Sean Salyer as Volunteer Coordinator and and Sandra Rae Schreiner as the receptionist. Salyer earned a master’s degree at the University of Memphis and a bachelor’s degree in political science and communication studies at the University of South Dakota. Schreiner has worked in the Sioux Falls area for nearly 30 years.

LifeLight Communications, Inc. recently hired Katie VanWyhe as Marketing & Graphics Coordinator and Nich Trumbull as Production & Facilities Coordinator.

David Weems is the new Campus Director for Globe University-Sioux Falls. Weems has been working in higher education for the past nine years. He comes to Globe University from Grand Canyon University in Phoenix,, where his last position held was Vice President of Finance Enrollment Online Operations.

AWARDS

Border States Electric (BSE) was named one of the 100 largest majority employee-owned companies in the country. Ranked 84th, BSE is also one of three employee-owned companies headquartered in North Dakota on the list. The list is compiled annually by the National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO), a private, nonprofit membership and research organization in Oakland, Calif. A complete list is available at http://www.nceo.org/library/eo100.html. BSE has approximately 1,300 employees and 60 branch operations in 14 U.S. states and Mexico. Corporate headquarters are located in Fargo.

Aaron Gerdes, Brett Gildemaster and Kevin Jergenson, owners of Century Business Products have achieved Kyocera Premier Dealer Status for 2010. CBP was one of 24 dealers nationwide to earn this prestigious designation! There are over 450 Kyocera dealers in the United States, putting Century Business Products in the top 5 percent of all Kyocera dealers.

CorMARK Advertising and Marketing won two Bronze Telly Awards from the National Television Association for a television campaign written and produced for CorTrust Bank.

The worldwide Junior Achievement office in Colorado Springs honored 12 local community leaders who have been instrumental in making Junior Achievement of South Dakota successful. The Leadership Awards recognizes superior leadership and outstanding support for Junior Achievement. The following Chamber members received the Bronze Leadership Award: Michael Kedikl, SDN Communications.

GOOD DEEDS

RSArchitects, as part of their Operation RSA initiative, partnered with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Sioux Falls to renovate an existing home. The RSA crew donated an afternoon and assisted with filling nail holes, taping, and varnishing trim.

LEADERSHIP

Brandon Tilus, Insight Marketing Design; Thomas C. Clayton, attorney and finanical planner; and Jackie Jockheck, marketing consultant; were recently elected to the The Community Outreach Board of Directors. The Community Outreach, a privately funded mission, connects those in need with those who want to help with financial assistance, referrals and education. It offers mentorship to families in need through the Genesis and Project Jump Start programs and has served the Sioux Empire working poor for over 30 years.

Debra Owen, City Clerk/Chief of Council Operations for the City of Sioux Falls, was elected to the Board of Directors of the International Institute of Municipal Clerks (IIMC). Owen’s region includes representing the following 11 states: Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah and Wyoming. She will serve a three-year term culminating in May 2013. Owen is a licensed attorney who earned her Juris Doctorate from the University of South Dakota and her bachelor’s degree in business adminsitration from Augustana College. Founded in 1947, IIMC is a professional nonprofit association with more than 10,000 members throughout North America and 15 other countries, representing municipalities with populations of 1,000 to more than 8 million
