Mike Hauck, Accord Commercial Team and Hauck Law Office, and Corey Weide, Wells Fargo Advisors, LLC, were the Ambassador Team of the Month for May.

Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club, was the Diplomat of the Month for May. Second place went to David Johnson, DAKOTACARE, and third place went to Debra Peterson, CorTrust Bank. The May Reinvestment Award Winner was Debra Peterson, CorTrust Bank, and the May Ribbon Cutting Attendance Award Winner was Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club. The Diplomat Team of the Month for May was: Captain Sheila Hoff, Lloyd Companies; Karen Noonan, Carriernet Group Financial, Inc.; Debra Peterson, CorTrust Bank; Jim Slater, ServiceMaster of Sioux Falls; and Amy O’Connor-Hoback, Kleenrite Company.

The Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau hired Betsy McCarty as a Sales Assistant. Previously, McCarty worked at Rogers Jewelers and the Holiday Inn City Centre. Her responsibilities include providing support to sales efforts in selling Sioux Falls as a visitor destination.

Forward Sioux Falls and the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce have two interns working in communications this summer through the Interns in Industry program. Megan Brandsrud is a May 2011 Augustana College graduate working in marketing/social media. Jerad Schlobohm will graduate from Dakota State University in December 2011; he is working in photography for both organizations.

David Kowalczyk is a Mortgage Loan Originator at Sioux Falls Federal Credit Union. Kowalczyk, who lives in Sioux Falls, has more than 13 years of experience in the financial services industry, including six years of mortgage lending.

Advanced Systems, Inc., recently opened an office in Sioux Falls and hired five people: Craig Ewing, service manager, brings more than 32 years experience; customer service technicians Lorin Pitts and Chris Bergeson, both with degrees in electronics, have 37 and 14 years experience, respectively; Jim Liebsch and Mike Linton are sales specialists with industry experience — Liebsch has 13 years and Linton has five.

The Great Plains Zoo and Delbridge Museum of Natural History is a temporary home for three Bengal Tigers and a Snow Leopard while the Dakota Zoo in Bismarck, N.D., deals with flooding woes. The Bengal Tigers and Snow Leopard will be held behind-the-scenes, not viewable by the public. The Great Plains Zoo currently holds eight Amur Tigers and two Snow Leopards, which can be seen daily in their exhibits.

Once Upon A Child of Sioux Falls was recognized for achieving a “Gold Standard” measurement. The Gold Standard is reached when a store achieves a set of standards set forth by the franchisor during the evaluation process. The Sioux Falls store achieved the customer experience, store operations and consistent brand identity to earn Gold Standard recognition for the third consecutive year.

Rich DeYoung will retire after 16 years with Claritus. DeYoung started his career in the Air Force, he then spent many years with Unisys before coming to Claritus.

Ryan Kranz, AIA, at Perspective, Inc., is now certified with the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards and has been promoted to the position of architect. He successfully received his South Dakota license to practice architecture in May 2011. NCARB members are the architectural registration boards of the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and three U.S. territories (Guam, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands).

Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center received the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Gold Plus Performance Achievement Award. The award recognizes Avera McKennan’s commitment and success in implementing excellent care for stroke patients, according to evidence-based guidelines. To receive the award, Avera McKennan achieved 85 percent or higher adherence to all Get With The Guidelines-Stroke Performance Achievement indicators for two or more consecutive 12-month intervals. Avera McKennan achieved the GWTG Gold Award in 2010, and Silver Award in 2008 and 2009. Avera McKennan has been using GTWG-Stroke since 2004.

The Sioux Falls Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care System awarded local 2011 Awards for Excellence in Nursing to: Betsy Jonas, Nursing Assistant; Amy Craft, Licensed Practical Nurse; Brenda Fuhs, Licensed Registered Nurse; and Linda Bruce, RN, Cardiology Case Manager. They were recognized for their exemplary patient-centered care, outstanding teamwork, and collegiality.

Competing against selections from more than 20 countries across the globe, the Sioux Falls Regional Airport’s Travel Easy television campaign created by Media One Advertising/Marketing won a 2011 Summit International Creative Award.

The following Chamber members were recognized by Southeastern Behavioral HealthCare with the 2010 Directions for Life & 2011 Roy C. Knowles Friend of Mental Health award winners: Raven Industries, Corporate Donor of the Year; INTEK Cleaning & Restoration, Employer of the Year; and Parker Transfer & Storage, Volunteer of the Year. Each recipient was recognized for contributions to the advancement of the mental health field in Minnehaha, Lincoln, McCook, and Turner counties.
