Dean Buckneberg, Eide Bailly LLP, and Nancy Weber-Sweere, Midcontinent Communications, were the Ambassador Team of the Month for April. Wendy McDonnel, Kilian Community College, was the Diplomat of the Month for April. Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank, took second place honors and Karen Noonan, Carriernet Group Financial, Inc., took third place honors for April. Nelson was also the Reinvestment Blitz Winner for April. The April Diplomat Team of the Month included: Captain Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club; Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank; Jill Melchert, Farmers Insurance Group-Jill Melchert Agency; Wendy Bergan, YMCA; and Janel Cole, Postnet SD 103.

NEW FACES & PROMOTIONS

Eide Bailly, LLP recently promoted Ryan Doyle and Susie Hanson to partner in its Sioux Falls office. Doyle specializes in audit and accounting services for a variety of industries, including ag processing, renewable energy, general business and manufacturing. Doyle joined Eide Bailly in 1999 and is a graduate of the University of South Dakota. Hanson has more than 15 years public accounting experience providing services to a variety of industries, including employee benefit plans, real estate, wholesale and retail distribution and individual and corporate taxation. She joined the firm in 1990 and is a graduate of Augustana College.

Kristen Gulson is the new Executive Officer of the Realtor Association of the Sioux Empire (RASE). Gulson moved to Sioux Falls two years ago after spending the past 10 years in Washington, D.C., working in various human resources and operations roles. She is originally from Minneapolis and graduated from the College of St. Benedict.

Black Events & Advertising Inc./ Gonnagetwed.com hired Dena Espenscheid as a marketing executive and event planner. Espenscheid will be the primary producer of FamilyFest, a play, know and grow show.

Widseth Smith Nolting recently promoted Bryan Balcome, LS, to the position of land survey coordinator. Balcome will coordinate the activities of all land survey departments among the firm’s eight offices. He assists and advises individual office managers and survey department heads by providing leadership, estimating and scheduling, staffing, and technical resources necessary for overall project success. Balcome joined the company in 2006.

Julie Terrell is the new Executive Vice-President of the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire (HBASE). Terrell has a strong background in various non-profit industries. Most recently, she served as the Director of Development and Public Relations in Spokane, Wash. at St. Joseph Family Center. Prior to that, she was the Regional Director for Junior Achievement of South Dakota. Terrell, who holds a bachelor’s degree from Augustana College, succeeds Cindy Sheehan in the position as the HBASE’s Executive Vice-President.

MSH Architects (formally Miller Sellers Heroux Architects) hired Adam Alrubaie as Design Partner, specializing in health care. Alrubaie has had extensive health care design experiences in the United Kingdom and the Middle East.

AWARDS

Envision Companies was one of several businesses recognized at the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire (HBASE) Spring Parade Award of Excellence winners. The parade featured more than 75 homes built by more than 55 builders.

Kari Black, Black Events & Advertising Inc./Gonnagetwed.com, received “The Spirit of BSPI” and was awarded a trophy at the annual Bridal Show Producers conference and awards banquet in Las Vegas. This honor is given to one bridal show producer around the world annually.

U.S. Rep. Stephanie Herseth Sandlin received the Spirit of Enterprise Award from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in recognition of her work to create jobs and support economic development.

MEMBERS IN THE NEWS

Mayor Dave Munson appointed Doug Moss, Partner and Creative Director at Insight Marketing Design, to the Sioux Falls Visual Arts Commission (VAC). The Sioux Falls Visual Arts Commission, established in 2000, is a group of seven city residents who serve in an advisory capacity, providing guidance and recommendations to the Mayor and City Council on matters related to visual art within the city.

GOOD DEEDS

Washington High School received a $750 grant from Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance Program. Gary Popkes, owner of GT Express, worked with school officials to secure the grant. The grants were made possible by funding from the Exxon Mobil Corporation. The Exxon Mobil Educational Alliance Program is designed to provide Exxon Mobil retailers with an opportunity to invest in the future of their communities though educational grants to neighborhood schools.

Sales and Marketing Executives, Inc. of Sioux Falls (SME) presented Youth Business Adventure (YBA) a check for more than $17,000. The funds were raised through the annual SME Youth Benefit Auction. This brings the total funds SME has raised for YBA since 2002 to more than $146,754. SME of Sioux Falls also raised $625 to support veterans memorial flights to Washington, D.C. Funds were raised through the sale of mulligans at SME’s Golf JAM.

Sammons Financial Group (SFG), which includes Midland National Life Insurance Company and North American Company for Life and Health Insurance, recently awarded college scholarships to 15 Sioux Falls area high school students. SFG sponsors these scholarships to promote and honor excellence by students who wish to continue their education at an accredited post secondary institution.

Tires Tires Tires recently awarded one $1,000 academic scholarship and five $200 certificates to Tires Tires Tires through its Driving Toward a Better Future! program.

More than 1,200 people toured the feature home during the recent Spring Parade of Homes event, presented by the Home Builders Association of the Sioux Empire. Admission to the home, built by Deffenbaugh Homes, raised nearly $6,500 for the Sioux Empire Home Builders Care Foundation, the philanthropic arm of the HBASE.
