Karen Noonan, Carriernet Group Financial, Inc., was awarded Diplomat of the Month for April. Second place honors went to Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank, and third place honors went to Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club. Tammy Beintema, JDRF was the recipient of the Retention Award. The Diplomat Team of the Month for April was: Captain David Johnson, Dakotacare; Janel Cole, Cole Notary; Duane Noerenberg, Anderson Group CPA; Jessica DeNeui, A & B Business Solutions; and Mike Larson, Farm Bureau Financial Services.

Several volunteers with the Chamber’s Agri-Business Division were recognized at the Division’s Annual Meeting May 13. The following were recognized for their service on the Agri-Business Division Council: 2011-12 Division Chair Wendy Sweeter; Spencer Jacobson, John Morrell & Co.; Tate Thorstenson, Dacotah Bank; Mike Miller, First Dakota National Bank; Melanie Nichols, Sanford Applied Biosciences, LLC; and Teddi Mueller, South Dakota Corn Growers Association. Chuck Schroeder, received the “Old Timer” Award, Kaycee McDaniel, Minnehaha County 4-H received the “Rookie” Award; and Tim Lofswold, Sioux Empire Fair Association; Phil De Groot, Home Federal Bank and Stacey Sorlien, South Dakota Pork Producers Council were named the Volunteers of the Year.

NEW FACES & PROMOTIONS

Eric A. Pulse is the new Director of Risk Advisory Services for Eide Bailly. Pulse has more than 15 years in the public accounting and consulting industry providing information technology risk advisory and security consulting services to a variety of industries, including health care, insurance, financial services, banking, credit union and government. He holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and business management from Dakota Wesleyan University.

The Credit Collections Bureau promoted Suzi Betts to collection advisor. The Credit Collections Bureau named Megan Wehrkam the Client Services Rep of the Month for April.

Brigadier General Matthew P. Jamison is the new assistant adjutant general for the South Dakota Air National Guard. As the assistant adjutant general, Jamison is now responsible to the South Dakota National Guard’s Adjutant General, Maj. Gen. Tim Reisch, for strategic planning, strength management, airmen readiness and mobilization support of the state’s nearly 1,100 Air National Guard members. Jamison, of Sioux Falls, replaces Gen. Wayne Shanks, who served in the position since April 2010. Shanks, a Sioux Falls native and current resident of rural Colton, will retire from the Guard after nearly 39 years of service to the state and nation.

Harold Hastings is the branch manager for Border States Electric’s (BSE’s) Sioux Falls location. Hastings joined BSE in August 2000 and worked in the warehouse and at the city desk in the company’s Sioux Falls location; he held several positions within the company, most recently account manager.

Tammy Beintema is the South Dakota Development Manager for JDRF MinnDakotas.

HONORS & AWARDS

The Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) hosted the 2013 Visitor Industry Luncheon on May 16. The luncheon is a celebration of the Sioux Falls visitor industry and included a presentation of awards to the visitor industry. Each year the CVB recognizes people and businesses that show consistent support to the industry by presenting awards in four categories. Congratulations to the 2013 industry winners: Business: Eastway Bowl; Media: Jodi Schwan, Sioux Falls Business Journal; First Impressions: Stephanie Ovall, Sioux Falls Convention Center; and Heart of the City: Jan Grunewaldt, Best Western PLUS Sioux Falls Ramkota Hotel & Conference Center. Two special awards were presented to Jerry Dahmen and Chad Mackenzie, both of Results Radio/Townsquare Media, for their great partnerships with Sioux Falls CVB.

The Sioux Falls VA (Department of Veterans Affairs) Health Care System recognized nurses for their compassion and dedication to their profession by awarding them the Secretary of VA’s Nursing Excellence Awards: Barb Thaler, LPN; Brenda Stokke, RN; and Patti Hanisch, RN.

The 2013 Armed Forces Day celebration, sponsored by the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce Military and Veterans Affairs Committee was held on the grounds of the Sioux Falls VA Health Care System on May 18 to recognize the men and women who have served, or are currently serving in our nations militaries. Brig. Gen. Matthew Jamison, Assistant Adjutant General for the South Dakota Air National Guard, provided the keynote address. Annually, the committee presents the awards to four reservists and guard members who are selected by their military units for outstanding military performance and commitment to their country and community. Congratulations go to this year’s recipients for the Outstanding Achievement Awards: Sergeant Krystin R. Bock, U.S. Army Reserve; HM1 Clayton Christensen, Navy Operational Support Center; Sergeant First Class Ted Deloy, South Dakota Army National Guard; and Chief Master Sergeant Jeanne Gacke, South Dakota Air National Guard. Armed Forces Day also hosts the Stars and Stripes Awards, which is presented to an area family and business organization. Congratulations go to this year’s recipients: Roger and Lorie Hogstad and Beal Distributing.

Bill Peterson, formerly Vice President/Public Affairs Officer for CNA/Western Surety Company, was honored by the Association of California Surety Companies for his 10 years of service as President of their Board of Directors. Peterson is now the Vice President/Resource Development for Lutheran Social Services of South Dakota.

Marco, Inc. received the 2013 Perfect Image Award for Outstanding IT Services Provider from imageSource Magazine. The imageSource Perfect Image Awards honored exceptional businesses and dealerships that have shown excellence in office technology and document solutions.
