Leaving a legacy:
Betty Ordal to retire after 48 years

It's uncommon to spend nearly an entire career at one employer, particularly one where you have a new boss every year. But from addressographs to apps, Betty Ordal has seen a lot of progress in her time at the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.

Later this month she will retire after 48 years, having served in a variety of positions including the Director of Membership Services since 2001. All Chamber members are invited to recognize Ordal on June 25 with an open house, celebration and ribbon cutting. ...Read Full Story

Keith SeversonWorkforce development important to our economy
Depending on which statistic you use, the average person will change jobs five to 10 times in a lifetime. The reasons for a career change vary from person to person and can be affected by changes in the industry.

While the national recession in the last decade didn't affect South Dakota or Sioux Falls as negatively as other parts of the country, workforce and the importance of its development to our continued economic growth is still a hot topic here. Sioux Falls is fortunate to have a deep bench of all types of industries that strengthen our economy in good times and not so good times. The security of a diverse economy can only reinforce the importance of maintaining our excellent business climate.

No one has developed a model solution that will work in every community to create new jobs and ensure great benefits for employees. But we can continue to strive for more opportunities for workers of all skill sets. Workforce development has been a major area of emphasis in several of our Forward Sioux Falls programs, including our current 2011-2016 program. ...Read Full Story
