Nancy Weber-Sweere, Midcontinent Communications, and Dean Buckneberg, Eide Bailly LLP, were the Ambassador Team of the Month for January.

Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club, was the Diplomat of the Month for January. Second place went to Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank, and third place went to Wendy McDonnel, Kilian Community College. The Diplomat Team of the Month for January was: Captain Bill Rezac, Boen & Associates, Inc.; Tad Anderson, Anderson Marketing; Wendy Bergan, YMCA; Stephen Williamson, Excel Achievement Center; and Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club. The January Reinvestment Award Winner was Lisa Schultz, Sioux Empire Safety Village, and the January Ribbon Cutting Attendance Award Winner was David Johnson, DAKOTACARE.

NEW FACES & PROMOTIONS

Sheldon Koski has been appointed Vice President of Kouri and Associates, Inc. He is also part-owner of the agency, which operates as Kouri Insurance, and has been with the firm since 1992.

Ben Hodgins, has been promoted to Art Director at Insight Marketing Design. Hodgins brings award-winning design to both print and interactive projects. Hodgins joined Insight in 2005 after working in healthcare marketing.

The Sioux Falls Convention Center, managed by Global Spectrum, promoted Stephanie Schilling as the new Director of Events. Schilling, a native of Wessington, S.D., has been with the Sioux Falls Convention Center since August 2007. She has been an events manager for the past three years. Schilling earned her bachelor's degree in International Business and Marketing from Northern State University.

LifeLight Communications, Inc. recently hired Michael Frost as Development Manager and Cameron Gage as Finance Manager.

HONORS IN INDUSTRY

The Quality Inn & Suites hotel received the prestigious 2011 Platinum Hospitality Award from world lodging leader Choice Hotels International, Inc., franchisor of the Quality Inn brand. As a top performing property among the company's more than 4,900 U.S. franchised hotels, the Quality Inn & Suites hotel is among the top 3 percent of properties within the Quality Inn brand. As one of the company's top franchised hotels operating under the Quality Inn flag, the hotel has demonstrated an exceptional focus on guest satisfaction and dedication to providing superior service. Additional award criteria are evaluated by Choice Hotels through its official property ranking reports.

Krista Orsack, Director of Sales and Marketing for Global Spectrum at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, received her Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation by the Convention Industry Council. The CMP program recognizes individuals who have achieved the industry's highest standard of professionalism. Orsack is one of over 14,000 individuals in 36 countries and territories that have earned the CMP designation since its inception and the first person on staff at the Sioux Falls Convention Center to receive it. A native of Sioux Falls, Orsack joined Global Spectrum in March of 2009.  Her previous work experience includes Associate Account Executive for Lawrence and Schiller and three years as Sales Manager for the Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Alicia Schumacher, Media Buyer at Insight Marketing Design, is certified in Google AdWords Search Marketing. Schumacher is now globally recognized as an expert in critical AdWords skills and theory. To achieve the AdWords Certified Partner recognition, Schumacher had to pass the Google fundamental exam and a Google advanced exam.

AWARDS

Amy Meert Farr received the Williamson Militiaman Award during the annual Legislative Dining Out in Pierre. The award was established in 1987 by Maj. Gen. Ronald F. Williamson (retired) to recognize an individual who exemplifies the spirit of the citizen-soldier as shown by their community leadership, their support of the National Guard and the defense of our country. The award consists of a U.S. Army Saber and Scabbard. Farr is the first female recipient of the award.

At the annual Thank You Event, the Sioux Empire United Way recognized six individuals and three companies. Tom Simmons, Midcontinent Communications, received the David Birkeland Memorial Award which is given to the business or professional leader who most exemplifies David Birkeland's involvement in the community; Anne Rieck McFarland, South Dakota Achieve, received the Larry Oppold Memorial Award, which is given to a human service professional for outstanding dedication to his or her work; Colleen Brazil, Child's Voice, received the Helen E. (Oppold) Blair Memorial Award, which is given to an individual whose work in human services, law enforcement, education or church-based fields towards child abuse prevention and early intervention is exemplary; Larry Ritz, Eide Bailly LLP, received the Heart Club Philanthropist of the Year Award, which is given to a Heart Club member who has demonstrated active involvement and has also encouraged or influenced others to contribute; Aaron Knigge, Midco Connections, received the Rich Garry Rookie of the Year Award, given to a first-time Sioux Empire United Way volunteer who made a tremendous impact in his/her role, helping to fulfill the mission of Sioux Empire United Way; Jeri Breck, RSArchitects, received the Volunteer of the Year Award, which is given to a Sioux Empire United Way volunteer who selflessly and generously gives of his or her time and talents to help fulfill the mission of the Sioux Empire United Way; and: Reliamax Insurance (1-100 employees), MidcoConnections (101-500 employees), and  John Morrell & Co. (501-plus employees) each received the Business of the Year Award, given to three companies or organizations based on employee numbers that have greatly benefited the community through their generosity and employees' involvement in Sioux Empire United Way.
