Forward Sioux Falls celebrates 25 years

Twenty-five years ago, community leaders recognized the need to aggressively promote Sioux Falls as a great place to do business. The economy was rocky and community leaders asked: what must be done today to ensure Sioux Falls’ vitality tomorrow?

The answer was Forward Sioux Falls, a new economic development and marketing program to promote continued growth in the Sioux Falls area. Fundraising started in 1987 and the first program kicked off in January 1988. Rob OliverChamber membership is good business investment

A membership in the Chamber does more than say you’re “Open for Business.” A national survey of 2,000 adults reveals that being active in a local chamber of commerce is an effective business strategy because two-thirds of consumers believe that such companies use good business practices, are reputable, care about their customers, and are involved in the community. If a company shows that it is highly involved in its local chamber (e.g., is a chamber board member), consumers are 10 percent more likely to think that its products stack up better against its competition, according to The Schapiro Group.

If you’re a small business, you’re in good company — the majority of our members have 10 or fewer employees. The Schapiro Group’s study found that Chamber membership has consistent and powerful benefits for small business members, if consumers are aware that the small business is involved in its local Chamber. If respondents know that a small business is a member of its local chamber, the business enjoys a 49 percent increase in its consumer favorability rating, a 73 percent increase in consumer awareness, a 68 percent in crease in its local reputation and an 80 percent in crease in the likelihood that consumers will patronize the business in the future. ...Read Full Story
