Liz Lloyd, Lloyd Companies, and Lyle Dabbert, Brown & Saenger, were the Ambassador Team of the Month for March.

Lynda Billars, the Lynda B. Advantage/the real estate company; Kerry Hammel, Hilton Garden Inn; and Tom Shields, Great Western Bank, each will celebrate 10 years of serving on the Ambassador Committee in 2011.

Karen Noonan, Carriernet Group Financial, Inc., was the Diplomat of the Month for March. Second place went to Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank, and third place went to Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club. The Diplomat Team of the Month for March was: Captain Bill Rezac, Boen & Associates, Inc.; Tad Anderson, Anderson Marketing; Wendy Bergan, YMCA; Stephen Williamson, Excel Achievement Center; and Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club. The March Reinvestment Award Winner wasSheila Hoff, Lloyd Companies, and the March Ribbon Cutting Attendance Award Winner was Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank.

Krista Orsack has been hired as the Director of Sales and Marketing for the Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau. Orsack has worked in the visitor industry since 2005, including Director of Sales and Marketing for the Sioux Falls Convention Center/Global Spectrum and previously as a Sales Manager for the Convention & Visitors Bureau. She recently received the Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) designation from the Convention Industry Council.

Kraig Pomrenke is the new Assistant General Manager and Director of Sales and Marketing at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, managed by Global Spectrum. Prior to joining Global Spectrum, Pomrenke worked for Hegg Companies as the Vice President of Hospitality and a Hospitality Broker Associate since 2005. Pomrenke has more than 29 years of hospitality industry experience; he was also the Assistant General Manager of the Convention Center from 2003-05 when the Convention Center was managed by John Q. Hammons.

Laura Platt and Michael DeRycke were recently hired as Account Executives serving Sioux Falls, Sioux City, southern Minnesota and surrounding regions for Knight Printing of Fargo. Both were previously employed by Sioux Printing of Sioux Falls.

Marco, Inc. signed an agreement to purchase Best Business Products in South Dakota. Best Business Products has locations throughout South Dakota and in Marshall, Minn. Marco is a fully authorized service and sales dealer for Canon, Konica Minolta, and HP, and serves customers throughout the U.S. with 21 offices in the Upper Midwest.

The 2011 Board of Directors for the Project Management Institute Sioux Empire Chapter includes: President Carrie Van Heel, Avera McKennan; Vice President Sarah Malchow, Wells Fargo Deposit Operations; Director of Membership Kendra Siemonsma, City of Sioux Falls; Director of Finance Jim Reich, Good Samaritan Society; Director of Communications Laura Widman, Wells Fargo Card Services & Consumer Lending; Director of Programs & Development Jesse Borschel, CNA Surety; and directors at-large Scott Hansen, Sanford Health, and Dr. Phil Burian, Colorado Technical University.

The Prairie Family Business Association, an outreach program of the Beacom School of Business at the University of South Dakota, recently honored two Chamber members. The “Heritage Family Business of the Year” is the Vojta family of Prairie Berry Winery in Hill City, S.D. The family has been making wine from the berries collected on the prairie for five generations. Sandi and Matt Keck represent the family’s 5th generation of winemakers, handcrafting award winning “new world” wines using old family recipes. The runner-up for the Vicki Clarke Prairie Family Business of the Year was the Sweetman family of Sweetman Construction in Sioux Falls. The Sweetman family received the Boyd Hopkins Sr. Excellence in Family Business Award for Sioux Falls area family businesses in October 2010. Sweetman Construction Co. diversified into other phases of road building and heavy construction projects in South Dakota and surrounding states. They also own and operate Concrete Materials. Richard and his sons, Gerald (Jerry) and Dick Sweetman, ran the business together for many years. Jerry Sweetman, is now the chair of the board of directors after being the president and chief executive officer since 1996. His son, Patrick, took over the reins in June of 2010. Patrick is the third generation president and CEO of Sweetman Construction.

Good Deeds

Sioux Falls Federal Credit Union has created the Adopt-A-Classroom grant program to award up to six grants in the 2011-12 school year for projects that include a student financial literacy component. Grants of up to $500 will be awarded directly to teachers to provide them with some of the resources necessary to implement creative ways to increase financial literacy among their students. Any certified K-12 classroom teacher who works in an accredited public or private school within the credit union service area is eligible to apply for an Adopt-A-Classroom grant, and application materials have been distributed to all school districts.
