This column appears each month in Chamber News and features information about Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce members and volunteers. RECOGNITION OF CHAMBER VOLUNTEERS

Dave Fleck, Sioux Falls Construction Company, is the 2011 recipient of the DeWald Award. The award is named in honor of longtime Ambassador and Past Chair of the Board Bernie DeWald. The goal is to recognize volunteers who have achieved professional distinction and made significant community service contributions. The award will annually acknowledge an individual who is a current Chamber member; assists the Chamber in reaching its goals; is involved in other community, professional and charitable organizations; and presents a positive attitude and professional image on behalf of the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce.
The following volunteers served as 2010-11 Diplomat Team Captains: Bill Rezac, Boen & Associates, Inc.; Eric Siemers, KELOLAND TV; David Johnson, DAKOTACARE; Jack Dyvig (Chair), Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club; Sandy Case, United States Postal Service and Case By Case Consulting; Sheila Hoff, Lloyd Companies; and Mary Johnson, Bankers Trust Company of South Dakota. Not pictured: Stacy Wrightsman, Sanford Health; and Wendy Bergan, YMCA.
Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimist Club, was named the Diplomat of the Year for 2010-11. Dyvig has been a member of the Diplomat Committee since 2004 and served as Committee Chair for the past fiscal year.

Lynda Billars, The Lynda B. Advantage/the real estate company, and Cari Linn Fossum were Ambassador Team of the Year. Together they sold 35 new Chamber memberships during the 2010-11 year. Lyle Dabbert, Brown & Saenger, and Liz Lloyd, Lloyd Companies, placed second with 39 new members, followed by Mike Hauck, Accord Commercial/Hauck Law Firm, and Corey Weide, Wells Fargo Advisors, in third place with 31 new members.

David Johnson, DAKOTACARE, was the Diplomat of the Month for September. Second place went to Karen Noonan, Carriernet Group Financial, Inc., and third place honors went to Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank. The Reinvestment Award went to Lori Lewison, Workplace Marketing, and Jack Dyvig, Sioux Falls Morning Optimists Club, was awarded the ribbon cutting attendance award. The Diplomat Team of the Month for September was: Captain David Johnson, DAKOTACARE; Karen Noonan, Carriernet Group Financial, Inc.; Deb Peterson, CorTrust Bank; Kristina Wolfe, Travel Leaders/Village Travel; and Mike Larson, Swenson Investments & Commodities.

HONORS IN INDUSTRY

Randy Knecht, CPA, Sioux Falls Construction Company, was awarded the South Dakota CPA Society Public Service Award.

Callie Beisch, CPA, Eide Bailly LLP received the Outstanding Committee Person Award from the South Dakota CPA Society.

Mark Broders, CPA, McGladrey & Pullen LLP, was named the Rookie of the Year by the South Dakota CPA Society.

A television commercial created and produced by Robert Sharp & Associates in Rapid City for the North Dakota Department of Transportation (NDDOT) was named the winning entry in the TV Commercial or Public Service Announcement (PSA), with consultant category by AASHTO’s (American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials).

In a report released by HealthGrades, Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center was named the Best in the South Dakota in orthopedic joint replacement; neuroscience, including stroke and neurosurgery; gastrointestinal (GI) medical treatment; and critical care. Avera McKennan received the Joint Replacement Excellence Award for 2012, placing it in the top 10 percent in the nation for joint replacement. Avera McKennan is also in the top 10 percent in the nation for GI medical treatment in 2012. In addition, Avera McKennan received 5-Star ratings in five key service lines, including cardiac care, orthopedics/joint replacement, neuroscience, gastrointestinal and critical care. Five-Star ratings were received for the following treatments: treatment of heart failure, joint replacement, total hip replacement, total knee replacement, treatment of stroke, treatment of GI bleed, treatment of bowel obstruction, treatment of pancreatitis, treatment of sepsis, and treatment of respiratory failure.

GOOD DEEDS

The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire, in partnership with the Rotary West service organization, planted a vegetable garden to learn the importance of fruits and vegetables in their diet and the science behind where food comes from and how things grow. As part of the 2011 Volunteer Sioux Falls, and with help from the Junior League of Sioux Falls and Hy-Vee, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Sioux Empire used their vegetables to jar fresh, homemade salsa and club youth chose to pay their sales revenue forward, selecting The Banquet to receive the nearly $300 earned.

NEW FACES & PROMOTIONS

Blaine Davis is a Sales Manager for the Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau. Davis joined the Sioux Falls Conventions & Visitors Bureau in August. Prior to joining the CVB, he spent six years as an Operations Manager for CCC Information Services. He is a graduate of Washington High School in Sioux Falls and Minnesota State University, Mankato.

Chrissy Spoo joined the American Heart Association as the Director of Corporate and Media Relations for Eastern South Dakota. Spoo is the former Marketing Director for The Empire Mall in Sioux Falls. She will direct corporate relations and fundraising efforts for eastern South Dakota, and will serve as the state’s media relations liaison for the American Heart Association.

Kayla (Bickett) Eitreim is the new president of Junior Achievement of South Dakota. With five years prior experience as the District Director of Junior Achievement, Eitreim recently served as the Associate Director, Resource Development for the Good Samaritan Foundation. Eitreim has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Sociology from Augustana College. She is currently pursuing her MBA at the University of Sioux Falls.

Global Spectrum, operators of the Sioux Falls Convention Center, promoted Kraig Pomrenke to General Manager. Pomrenke has served as Interim General Manager for the previous two months. Pomrenke joined Global Spectrum in April 2011 as the Assistant General Manager and Director of Sales and Marketing at the Sioux Falls Convention Center. Prior to joining Global Spectrum, Pomrenke worked for Hegg Companies as the Vice President of Hospitality and a Hospitality Broker Associate. Pomrenke has more than 29 years of hospitality industry experience.

Insight Marketing has made some changes to its staff. Founding Partner Doug Moss has moved to an Executive Creative Director role, and will oversee all creative aspects of the work. Jon Carroll is the new Creative Director. Carroll was previously with Lehman Millet in Boston, where he focused on healthcare clients. Ashleigh Walton has been promoted to Client Service Executive; Walton has been with Insight for two years as a Client Service Coordinator. Kristene Watkins has been promoted to Senior Designer at Insight. Watkins has been a designer at the agency for five years, working primarily in print design and execution.
