Chamber to offer opportunities to be informed
for April 12 school/municipal election

The Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is organizing several opportunities for members and the general public to be better informed about the April 12, 2016 municipal/school election. Absentee voting runs March 28-April 11.

The Chamber's Young Professionals Network (YPN) will hold a Meet the Candidates Social event on Tuesday, March 29 at Prairie Berry Eastbank (322 E. 8th St.). Networking will take place from 5:30-6 p.m. At 6 p.m., each CIty Council candidate will have five minutes to introduce themselves and explain how their candidacy will affect young professionals. There will be no formal question and answer sessions and attendees will be encouraged to approach candidates and ask questions one-on-one. The Chamber and League of Women Voters will conduct a Sioux Falls School Board Candidate Forum on Thursday, March 31 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Instructional Planning Center (201 E. 38th St.).


Voters must live within the Sioux Falls School District in order to vote in this election. There are five candidates running for two seats; they are: Peter Vaughn Pischke, Randy Dobberpuhl, Carly R. Reiter, Kent Alberty and Dianna Stelling.


Each candidate will have one minute to make an opening statement, one minute to respond to various questions submitted from the audience through a moderator and one minute to make concluding remarks. There are no rebuttals. The event is free and open to the public.


The forum will be broadcast live on KLRN-TV (Midco cable channel 20/595) and rebroadcast several times prior to the April 12 election: April 1-3 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.; April 5 and 7 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.; and April 11 at 2 p.m. and 8 p.m..

In conjunction with the League of Women Voters, the Sioux Falls Area Chamber will also hold a Municipal Candidate Forum on Thursday, April 7 from 5:30-7:45 p.m. at Carnegie Town Hall (235 W. 10th St.). Voters must live within the Sioux Falls city limits in order to vote in this election. There are four council seats open: At-Large, Northeast District, Northwest District and Southwest District.

The municipal forum schedule is as follows:
At-Large Council and Northeast District Council candidates: 5:30-6:30 p.m.

Northwest District and Southwest District Council candidates: 6:45-7:45 p.m.

Candidates include the following: At-Large: John Paulson, Theresa Stehly, Rich Noble; Northeast District: Robert Knutson, Tamera R. Enalls-Fenner, Pat Starr; Northwest District: Jacob Johnson, Briggs Warren, Erin Srstka, Greg Neitzert; and Southwest District: Manny Steele and Marshall Selberg.

The forum parameters will be the same for the Municipal Forum as for the School Board Forum. It will be broadcast live on CityLink (Midco cable channel 16/594 or Vast Broadband channel 11/511) and rebroadcast several times prior to the April 12 election: April 8 from 6-8 p.m.; April 9 from 8-10 a.m.; April 10 from 6-8 p.m.; and April 11 from 1-3 p.m.
