63rd Annual Sioux Empire Farm Show kicks off today
The 63rd Annual Sioux Empire Farm Show, sponsored by the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce, officially kicks off today with a ribbon cutting at 4:30 p.m. in the Expo Building on the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. The Sioux Empire Farm Show runs Jan. 26-30, 2016. Today also features 4-H and FFA Invitational calf shows that will take place in the Expo Building starting at 5 p.m.

All livestock events, known as the Sioux Empire Farm Show, take place in the Expo Building at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. Livestock producers show the best in purebred and market livestock and manufacturers and suppliers display the latest in agricultural products. Livestock events will culminate with the Mayor’s Round-up and Sale of Champions Friday, Jan. 29, at 5:30 p.m. in the Best Western PLUS Ramkota Hotel Exhibit Hall. The Farm Show concludes Saturday, Jan. 30.

Bill Evans, The First National Bank in Sioux Falls, was named the Agri-Business Citizen of the Year and the Brad and Monica Nussbaum Family of Garretson were named the Farm Family of the Year. They will be recognized at the Mayor's Round-Up & Sale of Champions Friday evening. Tate Thorstenson, First Bank & Trust, is the 2016 General Farm Show Chair. Along with Chamber staff and more than 150 volunteers, he is overseeing the livestock portion of the show.

The Sioux Falls Farm Show, the commercial exhibit portion of the show, runs Jan. 27-29 and fills the Sioux Falls Arena, the Sioux Falls Convention Center, the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center and the north end of the Expo building at the W.H. Lyon Fairgrounds. The commercial exhibits give visitors an opportunity to see the very best equipment and products in the industry.

The Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce is holding live and silent auctions to raise funds for its Farm Show Exhibitor Scholarship. The auctions will take place at the Mayor’s Round-Up & Sale of Champions dinner Friday and the scholarship will be awarded later this spring. Tickets for the dinner, which includes prime rib, are $45 per person with reserved tables of eight. Contact Valerie to RSVP: 605.373.2010.

An estimated 30,000 people are expected to come through Sioux Falls for the farm show, bringing more than $2.9 million into the city. For more information contact the Sioux Falls Area Chamber of Commerce office at 605.336.1620 or the Farm Show office at the Expo Building at 605.367.7161.
