Tammy Beintema, Sioux Falls Business Magazine, was awarded Diplomat of the Month honors for July. Second place honors and the Ribbon Cutting Attendance Award went to Duane Noerenberg, Anderson Group CPA, and third place honors went to David Johnson, DAKOTACARE. Julie Nelson, Great Western Bank, was the recipient of the Retention Award. The Diplomat Team of the Month for July was: Captain Marshall Selberg, Lloyd Companies; Tammy Beintema, Sioux Falls Business Magazine; Gita Hendricks, Rocco’s Catering; Wendy Bergan, YMCA; and Kelly Grovijahn, Homewood Suites by Hilton.

NEW FACES & PROMOTIONS

Erin Zimmerman joined the Sioux Falls Convention & Visitors Bureau as a Sales Assistant. A Sioux Falls native, Zimmerman graduated from Lincoln High School and earned her bachelor’s degree in Travel and Tourism from St. Cloud State University.

Advana Mortgage, a division of Premier Home Mortgage, Inc., welcomed Mortgage Banker Rick Woodford.

LeAnn Erickson joined the ADwërks crew as Playground Monitor and will be handling office management duties in the agency. Erickson has a bachelor’s degree in communications from Augustana College and brings a variety of experience to ADwërks including accounting, trafficking and business and office management.

University Center welcomes two new employees and has promoted a third: John Strowbridge is an Academic Advisor; Summer DeJong is a Secretary for Academic & Student Services; and Jill Pick has been promoted to Senior Secretary.

Lawrence & Schiller TeleServices added three new staff members: Doug Mikuska as a Business Development Manager, John Coulter as a Business Development Manager, and Tanya Hillman as the Human Resources Manager.

G & R Controls hired several new staff members: Jake Thiner as a Control Technician; Tyler Davis, as a System Specialist; and Jake Mews as a Service Technician.

Sioux Falls Seminary added the following new faculty members: Nathan Hitchcock, Ph.D., is Assistant Professor of Church History and Theology; Gretchen Hartmann, M.A., joins the seminary’s faculty as Instructor of Marriage and Family Therapy; and Michael Wheaton, M.A., is also an Instructor of Marriage and Family Therapy.

Sioux Falls Psychological Services has several new staff members: Jennifer Helkenn, Ph.D., is a Licensed Psychologist for Sioux Falls Psychological Services and teaches as an adjunct faculty member at Sioux Falls Seminary; Rachael Anderson, MA, is a Mental Health Counseling Intern; Sara Kuehler, MA, is a Mental Health Counseling Intern; Kimberly Belben, MA, is a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern; and Megan Miller, MA, is a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern working for Sioux Falls Psychological Services’ extension office in Platte called River Counseling.

Tricia Merrigan, MD, joined Avera Medical Group Comprehensive Breast Care after completing a fellowship in breast surgical oncology at Akron General Medical Center in Akron, Ohio.

HF Financial Corp, parent company of Home Federal Bank, appointed Stephen M. Bianchi President and CEO of HF Financial Corp. and its operating subsidiary, Home Federal Bank. Bianchi served as Interim President and CEO of both entities since October 2011.

HONORS IN INDUSTRY

Junior Achievement of South Dakota was awarded the Platinum Summit Award, one of Junior Achievement USA’s (JA) highest honors. The award is given to local JA offices that have reached outstanding success in financial health, program quality, management effectiveness, and program growth.

Avera McKennan Hospital & University Health Center was awarded a Community Value Leadership Award by Cleverley + Associates, having earned the designation of Community Value Five-Star Provider. The Five-Star recognition goes to hospitals that achieve a Community Value Index score in the top 20 percent of all hospitals in their group. Avera McKennan was one of only three hospitals recognized in South Dakota, and the only one in the Sioux Falls region. This is the fourth time Avera McKennan has received this award since 2008.

LEADERSHIP

Diversity Kiwanis Club of Sioux Falls elected the following officers for the 2012-13 year: President Kate Studer, Good Samaritan Society; Past President Carla Cooey, 2nd Judicial Circuit; Vice President Jesus Ramirez, Black Hills Special Services; Secretary Bill Zortman, Key Real Estate and Backyard Broadcasting; Secretary Jack Stengel, retired; Treasurer Karen Roth, First Bank & Trust.

University Center Executive Dean Mark Lee was named to the Board of Directors of the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO). NACUBO is a nonprofit professional organization representing chief administrative and financial officers at more than 2,500 colleges and universities across the country. Lee will serve a three-year term on the Board. Lee is also the 1st Vice President of the Central Association of College and University Business Officers representing over 600 institutions in the central U.S. He will become President of CACUBO in October 2013.

AWARDS

Yancy Erickson, Executive Chef for Ovations at the Sioux Falls Convention Center, managed by Global Spectrum, won the top prize of “People’s Choice Award” at the 1st Annual Sioux Chef Challenge. Erickson was also awarded “Best Presentation” by the judges. Chef Erickson, who beat out nine of the area’s best and most prominent chefs, has been with Ovations since 2007. The Sioux Chef Challenge was presented by the Diversity Kiwanis Club of Sioux Falls. Executive chefs and sous chefs from around the region were invited to compete in one of three categories: appetizers, entrées and desserts.

Peter Hegg was honored with the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award from the Federal Aviation Administration, an award that only 2,192 pilots nationwide have received. The award recognizes pilots who have demonstrated professionalism, skill and aviation expertise by maintaining safe operations for 50 or more consecutive years of piloting aircraft.
